More People Filing Tax Returns Online

Posted: Updated:

Sending your tax returns through the mail could soon become a thing of the past now that the IRS is recommending a digital tax season.

"Well we encourage people to electronically file and get the refund through direct deposit for the quickest turn around," says IRS media relations specialist, Karen Connelly.

And the IRS numbers show many have put that advice to good use with almost 90 percent of people choosing to file electronically and get their refund sent directly into their bank account within approximately two weeks.

But if you send your return through the mail, you could be waiting much longer for your check.

"If you file on paper or request a check you could be looking at anywhere between 4-6 weeks."

Connelly adds that the wait could be even longer with the high amount of returns that are being processed this year. She says filling online is the easiest and quickest way to get your money, and as a bonus it eliminates the risk of having your personal information stolen out of your mailbox. So if you are still looking to file your taxes you can simply log onto your computer and head to the IRS website.
