A trial is now well underway, involving a consultant charged with defrauding a federally funded Blackfeet youth program.
Prosecutors claim nearly $475,000 from the Po'ka Project went to a business owned by Gary Conti, their monitoring consultant. Conti is charged with kicking back more than $230,000 to accounts controlled by project leaders between 2008 and 2011.
His defense attorney says that the fraud was perpetrated primarily by those individuals. Conti told investigators the returned money was meant to be a donation to the Blackfeet community.
