College Entrance Exam SAT Gets Makeover

Posted: Updated:

The SAT college entrance exam is getting a makeover! College Board President, David Coleman, says the updated test will serve as a "new doorway to opportunity."

A room filled with educators and school counselors sat quietly as Coleman explained how the new SAT will be focused on three key points: evidence based reading and writing, an optional essay, and math.

The new sat will return to the old 1600 scale. It will last three hours with an additional 50 minutes for the essay portion. So-called SAT words are gone, and when students start taking the test in the Spring of 2016 they will no longer be penalized for making wrong answers.

The national curriculum for math and English has been criticized from the right as being politically skewed to the left, and its development denounced by some liberal watchdogs as not being inclusive.

Coleman also announcing a partnership with Kahn Academy to provide free test prep material. The goal is to help lower income students without dumbing down the test.
