Online Petition Calls for Change in Great Falls Public School Cancellation Policy

Posted: Updated:

An online petition against the Great Falls Public School cancellation policy is making the rounds on social media.

The petition on change.org asks the Great Falls Public School District to accept responsibility for putting students, faculty, and parents at risk due to the current school cancellation policy.

It was started in response to the death of CMR High School student, Samantha Sipes, on Thursday morning. The petition says the current attendance policy in place at the schools encouraged students to get to class on time even though road conditions were so icy that the school buses were not running.

The petition specifically says it is not blaming the school policy for Sipes' death but it is asking to "please change the school cancellation policy so that parents, students, and faculty are not putting their lives at risk when traveling to and from work."

Currently the petition has reached 750 signatures.
