Melting Ice Now Causing Flooding Dangers in Montana

Posted: Updated:

As ice melts across the treasure state, flooding has become an increasing issue, especially in southern Montana.

With increasing temperatures, the ice and snow that were road hazards earlier this week have caused a new kind of danger.

Flood waters have risen in a number of places, but fortunately, community members have stepped up to help.

"This has been a great place to raise our family and this is why, because when something goes bad, there's people here that they come out, they help, they're eager to help, they don't about who's going to get paid or anything like that.  It's a community effort and it's a good place to live," said Andy Nickol, a volunteer.

While certain major waterways may see water get over the banks, flat land could still see flooding as melted snow has nowhere to go with the ground frozen.

If you happen upon a roadway that's flooded, do not cross it, as only a couple inches of water can move a full-sized car and cause hydroplaning.
