Deadline Arrives For Candidate Filings

Posted: Updated:

If you're an aspiring politician in the state of Montana, today was the last day to enter a race as part one of the major political parties.  As of 5:00 pm on Monday, the deadline has now passed for citizens of Montana to file for candidacy.

While the traditional closing of the door and ringing the bell still happened at the capitol, the Secretary of State said things were a bit different this year due to technology.

"Well, we're expecting a really exciting day but less so than in years past because we have online filing now.  So where they used to hover around the office and file after four thirty and close to give, now they file online," said Secretary of State Linda McCulloch.

Though all of the filings haven't been reported just yet, up to 2/3rd's of candidate filings this year were done online.  The only system made someone file in person or have a representative do it for them.   The new system has likely gained popularity due to convenience, especially due to the geographical size of Montana.
