UM Men's Basketball Has Tough End to Season

Posted: Updated:

The magical run in the Big Sky Tournament for the Montana Grizzlies is now over. They came up short of reaching five straight championship game appearances falling 70-63 to Portland State and the loss, well, didn't feel too good.

"Congrats to Portland State, they found a way to get it done. I feel bad for our guys, you know the end is always tough when it hits you in the face," said Griz Head Coach Wayne Tinkle.

The end was especially tough for Senior Kareem Jamar, who finishes fourth in school history and 13th in conference history in scoring.

"Um, yea," said Griz senior Kareem Jamar.

It is not the way Jamar pictured ending his career but he certainly will leave a positive impression among his teammates and coaches.

"I love him like a son, he has given me great effort and we are going to surely miss him, surely miss him," said Tinkle.

"It sucks that we had to go out like we did and couldn't make his last go around better, I know he's got a lot of good basketball ahead of him and he's going to make all of us proud," said Junior Guard Jordan Gregory.

The Griz led by two at halftime and were playing like the better team, but once they started playing from behind they pressed and made some mistakes.

"We got out of character, we got out of character when we told our guys to not get frustrated.  It's the post season you can't control everything but what you can control is staying together, keeping your focus and we got out of character," said Tinkle.

So no NCAA tournament chances for Montana this but there is still a very slim chance they could get invited to another post season tournament we will have to just wait and see.
