Bomb Threats to Elementary Schools Shake up Helena

Posted: Updated:
HELENA -

At approximately 8:45 AM officers received a call claiming a bomb was left at an elementary school.

The Helena school district immediately evacuated all of their students from every elementary school to their safe zones.

The schools were then given a full sweep, but there was no evidence of a bomb threat. Students were then allowed back to campus.

Parents were notified via email and telephone with this message:

"The police are conducting sweeps of all buildings at this time.  All schools are being evacuated following standard evacuation procedures. Students will take their coats and backpacks with them and will remain in their evacuation location until the all clear is received from the police at which time they will return to the school.  The police department will conduct the sweeps of all elementary schools and then will notify each school when it is safe to return to the building.  The sweep should last approximately 30minutes.

The Helena Police Department has received an anonymous tip that a bomb has been placed in an unnamed elementary school.  At this time the police are questioning the validity of the threat.  However, we are taking all precautionary measures to insure the safety of our students."

The email left many parents with many questions, but not too many answers. One such parent was Dean Kipp, the father of Connor Kipp at Bryant Elementary.

"I tried to call the school," said Kipp. "A couple different numbers I have for Bryant school got no answer. I tried to call the non-emergency Helena Police Department number and they wouldn't give me any information. They told me to call the school district, and there was no answer at the school district either."

Once the schools were checked out by the police, students were allowed to return to their respective schools. Thankfully no other threats were found.
