Multiple Scams Reported in Cascade County

Posted: Updated:

There have been a few reports of scams in the Great Falls and Cascade County area.

First, the Cascade County sheriff's office warns of a scam.

A scam is asking people to donate to an organization known as "Search and Rescue Charities" says the cascade county sheriff's department.

The charity is asking for people to donate to an address in the Great Falls area, but the sheriff's department says the address is really a ups mailbox location not a physical address.

They also add that the charity is in no way related to the Cascade County search and rescue team and warn those donating that the local department is not benefiting from those charitable funds.

There is "Search and Rescue Charities" that is currently a registered charity in Tacoma, Washington, the sheriff's department says.

Still the sheriff's office warns that you should do your homework before donating to any charities.

There have also been reports of a scam in the area that is using the NorthWestern Energy name as a front to ask possible scam victims for money by claiming they have not paid a power bill.

Imagine getting calls from a number more than twenty times in one day and when trying to be removed from the calling list, it only get's worse.

This happened to a viewer and they said someone claiming to be a representative from NorthWestern Energy told them they owed $11,000. It had to be paid immediately.

The viewer paid a visit to NorthWestern to ask about the calls and was informed that it was a scam. The company took a report claiming they had not previously known about that type of scam.

A representative for NorthWestern Energy was not available for comment on the situation.

If you think you have been contacted by scammers using the name of NorthWestern Energy, you should report it to their Great Falls office at (406) 454-7169.
