Number 37 Has Meaning for Griz's Zack Wagenmann

Posted: Updated:

The number 37 Legacy number, started in the mid-80's by Kraig Paulson is worn by a player who hails from the state of Montana. Last year Jordan Tripp donned the jersey and now he has passed it on the Missoula native Zack Wagenmann.

"Oh it's an immense honor I can't begin to tell you what it means to me growing up in Montana seeing all the greats that have worn it too many to name. Just a million guys that have layer the foundation for a great program," said Wagenmann.

When the player who wears the number 37 graduates, he is the one who picks who gets to wear the Legacy number next.

"As far as 37 goes you accept it the number is not going to change who you are. You pass it on to someone who has those qualities and what that entails is to the community, to the locker room, to what your teammates see you as, because that number is on you you're not going to see that number everyone on the outside is going to see that number and what it represents and that's what he represents," said Tripp.

"My heart started pounding when I heard what Jordan Tripp said about Zack Wagenmann and why he selected him and that's two in a row now that are out of Missoula to wear the legacy number. Both are very deserving and both really know the importance of that role and the tradition behind it," said Head Coach Mick Delaney.

Wagenmann was also voted a team captain for this year and will be an anchor for the defense both on and off the field.

"It's amazing it almost feels a little surreal and it's a good feeling and I'm just excited to be back out here with my teammates," said Wagenmann.

ENTIAT, Wash. - A burn out operation is planned for Tuesday morning in an effort to establish a secure line in the bottom of the canyon where the Mills Canyon Fire is burning. Burning material rolling downhill and igniting spot fires on the north side of Swakane Canyon have caused concerns and indicate a vulnerability to a fire escape and repeatedly expose firefighters to very steep terrain and rolling material.
