Great Falls Shows Support for Huestis

Posted: Updated:

Stanford University might be located in California, but people from Great Falls are rallying around the Cardinal because former CMR star Josh Huestis is on the team.

Huestis, Stanford's career leader in blocked shots, has helped the Cardinal advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, where they will face Dayton on Thursday in the South Regional in Memphis, TN.

On Tuesday, hundreds of Great Falls residents signed a banner that will be sent to Huestis to show their support for him as he and his teammates try to advance to the Elite 8.

"Josh is pretty special to our family. We've just held Josh close to us and have watched him all the way and we're so proud of him. He's just an exceptional young man from an exceptional family and we wish him all the best," Great Falls resident Susan Johnson says.

"I believe that Josh is the pride of Great Falls, Montana and I'm so happy that they made it to the sweet 16," Great Falls resident Diane Hubka adds.

Huestis, a senior, played a huge part in getting the Cardinal this far. He had a key block and a basket late in Stanford's upset of Kansas, and his lock down defense on Jayhawks star Andrew Wiggins prevented the projected NBA Lottery Pick for ever getting in a groove, taking only six shots.

Huestis and the Cardinal face Dayton on Thursday at 5:15pm Montana time. The winner of that game will face either Florida or UCLA on Saturday with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
