The Local Boy Comes Home: MSU's Tanner Roderick

Posted: Updated:
They say you can always go home. That's the case for Tanner Roderick, who transferred from Nevada to MSU last season, playing wide receiver. Now he's trying to go back to the position he played so well at Bozeman High, Quarterback.

"I just like being able to control the offense and  being able to play the game and make plays and touch the ball when I can," said Roderick.

Roderick is such a play maker that he played wide receiver for the bobcats last season. Coach Cramsey says they got to get him used to playing quarterback again.

"What makes him great is his athletic ability. We got to get him back on his reads, and his fundamentals and techniques of playing quarterback cause he's been not playing the past couple of years," said Cramsey.

"It's all a matter of consistency sometimes he'll throw a nice 17 18 yard post corner on a rope and then he'll throw a ground ball on a half back swing pass he really just need to get consistent on all his throws," said Bobcat Nation's Colter Nuanez.

Cramsey says that Roderick off the field and Roderick on field are very different people.

"Tanner seems to be a laid back person from the outside but once you get to know him he has an intensity inside of him and a competitiveness that doesn't always come out on day to day living but comes out in the media room and comes out on the practice field," said Cramsey.

The good thing about Roderick's skill set is that he can play multiple positions.

"I think he's the one guy in this quarterback position that doesn't have to worry he'll have a spot on the field on this offense one way or the other before this is all over," said Nuanez.

So where does Nuanez think Roderick will wind up?

" I think he's going to be a starting wide receiver for this team He caught 12 passes last year first time every playing wide receiver that's with missing 7 or 8 game," said Nuanez.
