Detective Slaughter Key Witness in Eskew Trial

Posted: Updated:

The key witness in day ten of the Jasmine Eskew trial was lead investigator, detective Jesse Slaughter. He took the stand during the morning session and continued throughout the day testifying about his actions during the investigation, including his reasons for charging Eskew with the crime.

"She confessed to causing the injuries that caused the death of Brooklynn Eskew. She also delayed medical care for her infant daughter after these injuries occurred. It was close to an hour before she called 911," said Slaughter.

While on the stand, Slaughter claimed he thought Eskew's actions made her look guilty because she did not immediately seek care after her daughter was injured.

"Its almost unnatural for a parent to see their child suffer a significant injury. They stop breathing, and they delay care for close to an hour," said Slaughter.

During Slaughter's testimony, the video of police interviewing Eskew's ex boyfriend, Greg Robey, was played for the court.

"This is a homicide investigation. Brooklynn is not going to survive. How does that make you feel?" police asked.

"Makes me very sad right now," said Robey.

More of Greg Robey's interview with police will be played when the trial resumes on Monday morning and afterward the defense will begin their cross examination of detective Slaughter.
