Step Up for Kids 5K Run

Posted: Updated:

The issue of child abuse in Cascade County has been a problem for a long time. ABC Montana's Joe Biega headed to Gibson Park this morning to meet with folks running in the Step Up for Kids, stop the child abuse fun run to learn their reasons for support. Folks were up early this morning to help the chamber of commerce in a fun way to raise awareness about a persistent problem in the electric city.

"What we have going on today is the Step Up for Kids 5K fun run it's for child abuse awareness to raise awareness that child abuse is happening in cascade country and to hopefully raise some funds to support the local non-profit Casa-Can and the efforts that they do to head off child abuse here in our community," says Run Organizer Kurt Sparing.

Great Falls showed it's passion against the issue of child abuse today as more and more folks showed up to run in support.

"We're expecting right at 100 participants today which has been an overwhelming response from the community," says Sparing.

Race participant Brayden Popovich says he has a goal today to help stop child abuse in Cascade County.

"I just wish that people would stop abusing kids," says Popovich.

After the successful turn out run organizers will look forward to doing this again next year.

"Nope this is our first time doing this and we are hoping that this is something maybe we can continue into the future," explains Sparing.
