STEM Expo Becomes the STEAM Expo

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS -

The STEM Expo will no longer be called the STEM Expo as Joe Biega explains there were many new additions to this years grade school science expo. This years STEM Science Expo held the most students and community volunteers eclipsing last years numbers by a huge margin.

"And we are dealing with over 400 great falls public school students and over 30 community vendors and over 235 projects,"explains Shelly Kelly.

Several new features were added on to the STEM Expo this year, for starters it is no longer called the STEM Expo but rather the STEAM Expo with the addition of art as a category also brand new They are allowing pre-school students to compete as well.

"Pre-school through 12th grade so we have a couple of tables for the sky line pre-school this year," says Kelly.

9 year old Benjamin Hodson has been working hard on his project, a project that I myself found very interesting.

"I wrote code for a video game," says Hodson.

Hodson says he really liked the idea of creating his own video game so he decided that was going to be his project for the STEAM Expo.

"We had the stem expo coming up and there was this thing that he said you can go on to the Internet and it gave you idea and I'm like I was just feeling something out and so I did this and made an awesome computer game,"says Hodson.

According to Hodson this is his 2nd year, last year he got 2nd place and as he aims for a first place finish he says he will continue his interests in video game creation.

Sexual Offenders in Montana need tier designation

In 2013 legislature passed a bill that gave district court judges the authority to assign a tier level to an offender after sentencing. Tier designations are important because of how it's used to predict the likelihood that a sexual offender will re-offend. However over half of Montana's registered sex offenders haven't been assigned.
