The Ice Plex Has Repair Needs

GREAT FALLS -

The Great Falls Ice Plex has closed it's doors for the summer so they can work on some last minute repairs. As we close down for the summer here at the Ice Plex the staff here are noticing that the ice rink needs a few minor repairs. The Great Falls Ice Plex is home to the Great Falls American's hockey team and central Montana Figure Skating, during the year one of the cooling towers broke forcing staff to work extra to keep the ice cool.

"During the cooling process there is a lot of heat created in to cool down everything those coils that run out to the cooling tower if those coils aren't cooled down it shuts down the system, it starts melting pretty quickly and I had to come in every morning and restart the compressors and get everything going so the ice would hard by the time practice or a game,"explains Rink Manager Jonathan Busby.

In fact the Ice Plex has been running on one less compressor for over a year now.

"We technically have 4 compressors but only 3 work, the 4th compressor went out last year and we went basically all the way this year with 3 compressors,"says Busby.

While the ice Plex holds fund raisers during the winter, the money raised is not enough to buy replacements for parts that are becoming obsolete. Busby says folks can donate their time or money to help keep the rink in business.

"You can go to our web site at www.gf-ice.org we are a non-profit it's a community ice foundation. They can go there, email me or certain people about how to donate," says Busby.

According to Busby so far they have been getting a long on the little that they have, some of the more minor repair is a broken heater in the American's locker room, a problem Busby hopes to fix in the coming years.
