Teen Facing Charges for Helena School Bomb Threats

Posted: Updated:

The fourteen year old boy from California that made three bomb threats against Helena schools is now facing six charges in Youth Court.

The boy is being charged as a delinquent youth, and he is facing three counts of terrorist threats and another three of falsely reporting a bomb threat.

Prosecutors from Lewis and Clark county filed the charges against the teen in March after the last bomb threat, but police say California is entitled to prosecute him first.

A sixteen year old Helena student, who reportedly conspired with the boy on two of the bomb threats, is also facing two felony intimidation charges in Youth Court.

The threats led to the evacuation of Helena Elementary and Middle schools on March 19th and all of Helena public schools on March 21st.

According to scanner traffic, around 9:00 Sunday evening a raft overturned in the Missouri River, causing several people to go into the water.  It is unclear at this time how the raft flipped, or how many people were in it. All passengers but one were able to get back into the raft safely; scanner traffic indicates the one who couldn't get back in was able to swim to an island. After a careful review of the evidence and witness testimony, prosecutors concluded the investigation could not conclusively determine who shot whom, or in what order the shots were fired.  Thus, there is no way to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, who actually fired the shot(s) that killed any of the decedents.
