Senior Standout: Mikaela Grove

HIGHWOOD -

Mikaela Grove does just about everything and does it well. Mikaela is a senior at Highwood High School and is currently in track season. But when she's not doing track, she's playing another sport, leading the student body, giving back to her community, or just being an all-around good kid.

Mikaela Grove has gone above and beyond the bar at the Highwood high school. As a 3 sport star athlete, she's been nothing short of outstanding.

"She's been a great athlete for us. She's involved in volleyball, basketball, and track. She was an all conference player in volleyball and basketball this year and last year. In track, her main goal is to get to state. She's been in 6th place the last two years in 2 events so she's working on getting there in the hurdles," said track coach and athletic director Dave Bahnmiller.

How ironic. Mikaela's hurdled many obstacles in her life but is still trying to get over the bar itself.

"Since I was a freshman I've made it to Divisional's every year and the past two years I've been one place away from moving on. So it's definitely a goal to get there and finish within the top 5 to advance to state and hopefully bring home some medals from state," said Highwood senior, Mikaela Grove.

However Mikaela's track season ends, she has impacted the school and community in other ways.

"She's our student council leader, she's also involved in a lot of church activities, she's just good to all kids in the school and is definitely one of our leaders of here at Highwood," said Bahnmiller.

Next fall, Mikaela will leave Highwood but she won't be going too far as she will attend Montana State University in Bozeman.

"What made me decide MSU was just being close to home. That's where my brother went, I know a lot of people down there, I have a lot of friends there," said Grove.

Mikaela won't be playing any sports in college but after she graduates she wants to return to athletics.

"I would like to be a health fitness coach at a fitness center and then hopefully get involved in the high school wherever I live and be a track coach but I would enjoy basketball or volleyball, but ultimately a track coach," said Grove.

Mikaela's set the bar high for herself but she seems like the kind of person who will always find a way to get over any hurdle.
