SUNNYSIDE, WA - The City of Sunnyside has a lot to brag about lately.

They're celebrating a new skills center, more hospital services, additions to the high school and many more accomplishments.

People living in the community said it's a great time for Sunnyside, and all of the new additions will give more people a chance to thrive.

People could take tours of Sunnyside High School Tuesday, which is getting 12 more classrooms thanks to additional state money.

Two ribbon cutting ceremonies also took place on Tuesday. One for the new Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center, and one for the $3.1 million expansion and modernization of the fire station.

"It's really marvelous," said Carol Mercer. "Sunnyside is growing, and it's a beautiful town, a marvelous place to live. And this will give many opportunities to many people."

Some other developments the community is celebrating include a nearly $3 million renovation of the downtown, new medical clinics and specialty services offered at the community hospital.

The Port of Sunnyside is also getting a digester that will boost its wastewater treatment capacity.
