YWCA Reports Rise in Domestic Abuse Victims Seeking Help

Posted: Updated:

The Great Falls YWCA says sadly the number of domestic abuse victims seeking their help is on the rise.

"It goes across economic, racial, and even gender boundaries. Its happening," says YWCA Executive Director, Janet Duffy.

Duffy says domestic abuse is not always about violence, but more about leaving victims feeling powerless.

"Its all about control for them. The abuser has all the power and control and they make sure the victim has none."

The loss of power makes it very difficult for victims to come forward, but Duffy encourages anyone in a bad relationship to reach out to begin healing.

"The victims are all the things the abuser has made them think they are not. They are amazing," says Duffy.

The YWCA is always available for those in need of help, and they can be reached at (406) 453-1018, the Help Hotline number.
