YAKIMA, WA - A popular City of Yakima program continues to help take some of the pressure off property owners who have been tagged with graffiti.

Having your house or business tagged could be a big downer. but the City of Yakima is trying to take pressure off the property owner by lending a hand.

"That's a city service that we incorporated, and we also hired an individual who goes around and that's what he does, he paints," said City of Yakima Code Enforcement Manager, Joe Caruso.

For the last year and a half, the city has partnered with Office of Neighborhood Development Services to paint over graffiti. All you have to do is fill out an online permission form on the City of Yakima's website and someone will be over within the next few days.

And guess what? It's painted over for free.

"The paint that they use it's a gray, and it will look like a gray swatch when it's done," Caruso said. "Unless you have the paint for the color of your house or your fence, the city will utilize that."

"As long as they're doing enough to advertise that program, then people should get their reports in, and that's a fantastic service," said Susan McCarthy.

But if someone refuses to have ONDS paint it out, then they'll get a notice from Code Compliance.

"You have 15 days to abate it," Caruso said. "If it's not abated on the 16th day, a $400 fine is issued."

The graffiti budget for ONDS in 2013 was a little more than 51,000.
