Possible Merger Between Nursing Home and Medical Center

CHOTEAU -

Last fall the Teton County Board of Commissioners and Medical Center Board met with a financial expert to review the numbers of the hospital and the nursing home since both were failing.

The expert suggested that a solution to the money problems would be to combine the nursing home with the medical center upsetting many Teton County residents.

"I feel like the hospital is trying to eat our old people. You cant ask old people to fund an emergency room," said Fred Ginther, a concerned citizen, who has an uncle in the nursing home.

Some residents said they would even move their family members to nursing homes in other cities if a merger were to happen.

"If they close the nursing home I would move my husband to Great Falls, which would be a 100 mile round trip for me to visit him each week," said Darlene Montgomery.

The commissioners and hospital board said residents should remain calm since the merger is only a possible solution and nothing has yet been set in stone.

"One solution is to combine the nursing home with the medical center but it could be the other way around. We know that all the numbers wont fit since some people wont go one way or the other," said Teton County Commissioner Jim Hodgskiss.

Officials with the Teton County Medical Center add that they are looking into the best possible solution to maintain stability in the Teton County healthcare system.
