Cats Running Back Chad Newell Brings The "Thunder"

Posted: Updated:

Sophomore running back Chad Newell says he loves competition. He has a genuine interest being on the grid iron.

"Football the game itself means the world to me," Says Cats Sophomore Chad Newell. "Being out here every day being on a team. Having a 100 guys that you can call your best friend."

The Billings native describes his style of play like this.

"I see myself as a balanced runner. I know I'm viewed as a power guy and I'm a bigger guy. I think I can be a lot more balanced," said Newell.

"Chad brings a lot of versatility to the offense you know he's a smart guy which allows us to put him in a lot of different positions," said running backs coach Michael Pitre.

You've heard the expression before, but Newell and Johnson are

"Kind of like the thunder and lightning. You got your small slashing back and then you got your big back that can pound guys," said Pitre.

"Shawn is one of the most explosive players in the nation. I've definitely embraced the roll of balancing him out and giving the defense a different look of being down hill," said Newell.

There's one thing that may surprise you about the 220 pound back.

"I really like art work. I love to draw. It's a good way to not only get your mind off football but just everything. That's how I express myself is through drawing," said Newell.

Newell has three clear goals for this Fall.

"I want to have a national championship and a conference championship. I want to beat the Griz and do my part," said Newell.
