Cats Battle for Starting Center Spot

Posted: Updated:

Montana State offensive line coach Jason McEndoo said the center position is like playing in an old school phone book. That's where the game is played. Now last year's starting center Mathew Devereux, was supposed to start this season. But before Spring Ball, coach McEndoo got this news.

"Before Spring Ball Mathew came in and decided to hang them up. He officially graduated in December. He wanted to pursue an MBA obviously he can't do that at Montana State so he wants to move on. Of course that's a bombshell when your starting center decided to hang them up," said McEndoo.

Coach Mcendoo said the guys on the O line rallied. Quinn Catalano and Joel Horn are competing for the job, but there's also a third guy that factors into the situation.

"Rob Ash told me it's a battle between two guys: Alex Eekhoff and Joel Horn. If Alex wins the job then Quinn Catalano will be at center. If Joel wins the job than Quinn will be at right tackle," said Bobcat Nation's Colter Nuanez.

"I've been pleased with the way Quinn Catalano and Joel Horn have both played at the center position. They've both done a nice job at directing the offense," said McEndoo.

The good thing about this situation is that senior Quinn Catalano can do it all.

"You really can't put a price tag on a player like Quinn he play every position left tackle left guard center right guard right tackle really anywhere I ask him to play," said McEndoo. "Catalano is so versatile he can play center if they need him to he can play right tackle if they need him to they'll find their best five guys," said Nuanez.

Even with the center position up in the air, the cats have experience up front.

"Having four starters back next year is huge. The beauty of it is out of the five guys we only have one senior which is even better," said McEndoo
