Carroll Outdoor Track Teams Shift In National Rankings

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - Carroll College Men’s outdoor track team has moved down from 11th to 14th, while the Women made a small leap moving from 13th to 12th place following the latest national ranking. These results are from the third edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NAIA National Team Computer rankings, which were released Wednesday, April 23rd.

“Last week we had a very solid dual meet and had the unique opportunity to send some of our top athletes to compete at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon against elite competition,” Carroll College head coach Harry Clark said.

The USTFCCCA NAIA National Championship Rankings are determined based on a formula of how many student-athletes teams have on the 2014 national descending order list for individual, relay events and how highly they are ranked.

On the Men’s side, Concordia (Ore.) remains in the top spot with an overall point total of 469.70. And Indiana Tech also remains in the top spot on the Women’s side with a point total of 554.91.

At the Great Falls Invitational last weekend, the Fighting Saints had 27 first-place finishes in a dominating performance on both the men’s and women’s competitions in Great Falls.  The Carroll men beat the Argos 107-47, while the women won 109-45.

At the Oregon relays, Rhianna Grossman finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running just one second off her personal best with a time of 10:49:84. Freshman phenom Leah Esposito captured the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:31:54.  Troy Solly placed 8th in the men’s 800 with a time of 1:51:78 and Sandy Torres finished 13th in the women’s 800 with a time of 2:13:99. Carroll College superstar pole vault champion Easton Padden finished third, clearing a height of 16-feet 2.75 inches.

“We had some excellent performances, Leah and Rhianna were just terrific and Troy held his own against some exceptional runners, I’m really proud of all of their performances,” Clark said.

Carroll College takes their talents to Pullman, Wash. For the Cougar Invite this weekend where the competition is again strong with top teams from the northwest competing.

Montana is facing a major overcrowding issue in animal shelters across the state.  With every shelter at max capacity, if not more, animal shelters are forced to make room wherever possible. The main culprits of the overcrowding are cats, however, dogs are also part of the equation.
