Rescue Mission Receives Check in Coins for a Cause

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS - In recent years Downtown Great Falls had seen an increase in homelessness and panhandling. The Downtown Association and the Great Falls Rescue Mission wanted to do something about it.

Joan Redeen of the Great Falls BID said that "the purpose is to assist folks who are homeless and try to reduce or eliminate panhandling downtown."

Today the Rescue Mission received a check from the Downtown Association.

Rescue Mission Executive Director Jim Kizer said "it's just really wonderful, it really is. That money is really going right back to helping the people that are really in need."

The Rescue Mission has been a haven for those in need for years, providing a place to sleep and meals for those who need it most. They will continue to do just that with the $509 they received in the coins for a cause campaign.

Kizer said for the future, "we're going to use that money for food, you know it's one of those where people that are asking for money are often looking for money for that meal. It's going to be provided directly to them."

The Rescue Mission had been chosen well in advance.

Redeen said of Coins for a Cause's program and its future that "it was the Downtown Safety Alliance making the decision to fund potentially four different organizations and we would choose one each year, and so last year we chose the great falls rescue mission."

The Rescue Mission also wants those in need to know that they are always there to help.

On the short list for next years Coins for a Cause are the Salvation Army, and Saint Vincent de Paul.
