Carroll's Hausauer Wins Frontier Conference Golf Title

After two rounds of golf on Monday, Connor Hausauer had a 7 stroke lead, but midway through the final round, he found himself up by a single stroke.

“There definitely was some quality play from the opponents. I got a few unlucky breaks early, and it got a little tighter than I wanted it to midway through the round, but I just kept hitting shots, keep doing what I’ve done all week, and I came out on top,” Carroll College Junior Connor Hausauer says.

While Hausauer kept his lead, his team slipped…after being up by five as a team…they ended up second, behind Westminster of Utah…by a mere four strokes.

“It really came down to the final hole. We just as a group ran into a situation where we took a lot of bogies on the final two holes, and ended up finishing in sixth place, just a few shots. Which is what we did last year, second place a few shots back. Unfortunatley for us we found ourselves just short of a national title appearance, but very proud of the guys. We were the four seed coming in, some of the best rounds of the year, we played really well in the weather, so extremely proud of them. The last four years we’ve gone second, first, second, second, so we’ll just look to keep building for the future,” Carroll Head Coach Bennett MacIntyre says.

Even though they didn’t come out on top, their conference champion is happy with how the rest of the team did.

“It is sweet to get the individual one. It’s something that I always thought I could do, and to do it is a big accomplishment for me. But the dream, the really big dream all year was to get the entire team to nationals, and we came in with a five shot lead, and we played well. I’m really proud of the guys, they stepped up but we just couldn’t get it done,” Hausauer says.

On the womens side of things, Lewis-Clark State took first, followed by Rocky, and Carroll in the top three, with Montana Tech coming in fifth. Rocky also finished fourth at the men's championships, a disappointing finish for the Bears, after coming in as the top ranked team, and losing their top player to injury. But, they remained positive

“It’s tough when you’re the number one . You’re the one who has something to lose. Other teams can just go for it. We definitely had a monkey on our back, but you learn from these experiences, and hopefully, since we don’t lose anybody, which is nice, we’ll come back and get the conference title and go to nationals,” Bears sophomore Tayler Noble said.
