Griz Men's Tennis to Face 2nd Overall Seed Oklahoma in 1st Round of NCAA's

MISSOULA - The Montana Grizzlies men’s tennis team will travel to Norman, Okla., to play the Oklahoma Sooners in the first round of the NCAA tournament on May 9 or 10.

The Sooners (23-3) are the second overall seed in the tournament of 64 teams.

“It’s going to be a very exciting match for our kids to play,” Head coach Kris Nord said. “It’s new territory for us, but we’re excited, and we’ll go see if we can hang with them.”

Nord added that it’s a challenge, when playing against nationally-ranked opponent, to stick to simple tennis.

“It’s a challenge to go out there and not try to play out of your normal routine,” Nord said. “We just need to go out there and do what we’ve been doing. I just want us to be ourselves and compete like we’ve been competing.”

The match will follow the same regular season duel format, with the winner of best-of-three doubles matches earning one total point, and six singles matches -- each worth one point.

The exact day and time of the match will be announced soon.
