A Bozeman Man Sues the Governor

BOZEMAN -

Governor Steve Bullock and three top administration officials are being sued by a Bozeman man who says they should have talked to the public before nominating 5.1 million acres of US Forest Service land for restoration.

Steve Kelly filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Gallatin County District Court. He wants the court to void the recommendation made by Bullock and ask that he and the State Department of Natural Resources and Conservation hold public meetings before making another recommendation.

Bullock says the land he recommended earlier this month needs to be restored because the forest is in poor health with increased risk of dead trees that pose a safety risk.

Some of the restoration to the area would including logging. Bullock says the land picked for restoration was chosen with the help of conservationists, forest rangers, county commissioners and the wood products industry.
