Griego Rape Victim Says She Plans to Testify at His Sentencing

Posted: Updated:

Kelley Hollingsworth was only 16 years old when Toby Griego raped her back in 1997.

Now in an exclusive on-camera interview, she is ready to tell her story,  this time to a Montana judge to try to make sure this never happens to anyone ever again.

Kelley was a 16-year-old student in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was heading home after a homecoming football game. That's when Griego saw her  and attacked.

Then her tale takes on an similar story to the women he raped here in Billings.

She says, "He tied me up with some of my clothes. He picked me back up and put me in the trunk of my car and started driving away. Stopped along the way, and he took a water bottle and washed off my whole body, and drove more. He popped the trunk of the car and said wait ten minutes or else I'll kill you."

When she told the Santa Fe Police, she says they thought she was covering for a boy at the party. Police caught Griego in 1998 after he tried to assault another woman and went to prison for several attacks. While in prison, Griego cut a plea deal after police linked items in the trunk of Griego's car to Kelley.

Kelley claims, "Later on, he confessed to my sexual assault which only gave him based on the plea bargain that he took, 1 additional year in jail for my sexual assault. So he ended up serving 9 years in prison. "

Then Griego left New Mexico for Montana. In January 2013, he began a series of attacks that left women in the city terrified for 9 months.

The Chief Deputy Attorney for Yellowstone County heard about Kelley's case in the summer of 2013. The eerie similarities became part of developing Griego as a suspect.

In August, Billings Police arrested Griego and he was brought to trial in April. Though Kelley's case could not be used at Griego's trial, it could be used at his sentencing. It's Kelley's case that will bring her to Montana to face the man who raped her 17 years ago and could put Toby Griego away for life.
