Auto Tech Students Compete in Statewide Car Competition

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - Dalton Boyd and his partner made up one of the nine teams of high school kids competing in the Student Auto Skills Competition in Helena on Thursday.

The teams were given new Ford Fiestas that had been planted with "bugs" and the teams had ninety minutes to find all the bugs to fix the cars.

"I was glad when I got the car started. I didn't want to be the last ones sitting there. I feel like we did it pretty fast," said Dalton.

After the teams got the cars started, they drove them out of the shop to be judged for prizes.

"Everyone walks away with an awesome prize. We have tools and some local businesses sponsored hats and some things that can help these guys when they are working on their own cars. Then the winners will go on to represent Montana in the national competition," said Kaelyn Kelly of AAA Mountain West.

Even with some cool stuff on the line, Dalton said he was competing for something a little different.

"What are some of the prizes you are hoping to win?"
"A warm fuzzy feeling."

Dalton and his partner ended up taking home that warm fuzzy feeling and third place.

They were just behind Flathead who came in first, and Havre who took home second place.
