Youth Lacrosse Alive and Well in Helena

Posted: Updated:

There's a bit of a youth movement going on over at Smith school in Helena. The Helena Huskies are one of only three youth under nine lacrosse teams in the state. Giving these kids a chance to learn how to play earlier than anyone!

"It's huge to get out there and get that benefit of playing when you're young," said Huskies head coach Chris Romano. "I know that when I played I didn't pick up a stick until I was a freshman in high school. So to be starting, we've got kids as young as five on our team!"

The Huskies started up last year, drawing in kids from all over the area that may have never been friends otherwise.

"They get to meet people from other schools and things because it's not sanctioned by where they go to school," added President of the Helena Lacrosse Club Amber Guge.

"Like my kids go to East Helena, but they get to go to play with kids who live in Helena rather than just East Helena."

All of this is great, but how do the kids feel?

"It's my favorite sport because I like running and you make so many new friends from playing lacrosse," said nine year old Brody Romano.

"We all get to have fun and play with each other," added eight year old Corbin Reighard.

"It's the most fun, unlike a lot of other sports," said eight year old Dalton Noble.

There you have it. But just to test the kids out, I threw some gear on, and let the kids shoot on me! Bring it on!

ENTIAT, Wash. - A burn out operation is planned for Tuesday morning in an effort to establish a secure line in the bottom of the canyon where the Mills Canyon Fire is burning. Burning material rolling downhill and igniting spot fires on the north side of Swakane Canyon have caused concerns and indicate a vulnerability to a fire escape and repeatedly expose firefighters to very steep terrain and rolling material.

All of their mechanics are ASE Certified and because UGM Motors doesn't purchase their vehicles, they are able to put a lot more money into rebuilding their used cars than the typical used car lot.
