CMR's Martinez Enters Title Quest Unbeaten

Posted: Updated:
As the editor of CMR high school's newspaper, Lindsay Martinez is used to writing about awesome athletes.

Which begs the question: what would she write about herself? Martinez has yet to suffer defeat. The Rustler junior is 23-0 so far this season and has only lost two sets the entire year.

"She's ready to go all the time," says CMR Tennis Head Coach Bailey Lagge. "She's been so good because She's very determined. She's just got the ambition behind her to get the job done."

Martinez is a three-sport athlete. She plays soccer and basketball but tennis is by far where she's had the most success. She says consistency has been key for her to go undefeated so far this season.

"I think playing really consistency. Every match," says Martinez. "It's a lot of long weekends & days of the week that you have to perform every single match. You can't take a match off or underestimate the kids you're playing. So playing hard and consistent every match."

Martinez enters divisionals with a perfect record but now there is little room for error. If she wants to win the state title at the end of the year she will have to finish in the top four at the divisional tournament, then on to state where she'll have to remain perfect.

"That would be awesome," says Martinez. "In soccer and tennis it's been elusive and I'd really like to get that for myself and CMR, my coaches and my family. I think everybody would really enjoy it."

And as the journalist in her could attest to, it would be the perfect end to what's been a perfect story so far.

According to scanner traffic, around 9:00 Sunday evening a raft overturned in the Missouri River, causing several people to go into the water.  It is unclear at this time how the raft flipped, or how many people were in it. All passengers but one were able to get back into the raft safely; scanner traffic indicates the one who couldn't get back in was able to swim to an island. As of 9:45pm, multiple units had responded to the Black Eagle Dam area. All those involved refused me...
