A Spokane Valley Police Deputy was heading westbound on Sprague to assist with an arrest in a domestic violence case when he struck Ryan Holyk at the intersection of Sprague and Vista while Holyk was riding his bike. Holyk was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses say the deputy swerved to miss the boy, but clipped him on the bike and sent him spinning. Witnesses also tell us the deputy did not have his emergency lights on. The deputy says he had a green light when he crossed the intersection.

Because a deputy was involved, the Spokane Police Department is taking the lead on the investigation.
