Community Memorial Day Service Held

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS - Memorial Day, a day of remembrance for our veterans past, present, and future. Today in Great Falls, tradition carried on with the annual Community Memorial Day Service at Highland Cemetery.

Sam Pappas, U.S. Army Retired said of the service that "the speaker was excellent, and he brought it right home, and this isn't the first time that I've done this."

Today's keynote speaker was Command Chief master Sgt. Phillip Easton of the 341st Missile Wing. He let all attendees know what the city of Great Falls means to the military community.

Easton, who is the Senior Advisor to the Wing Commander said "Great Falls is definitely a great military town with the most caring and supportive people, and community I have experienced in my close to 24 years military experience."

And Easton during his speech talked about the lasting effect those that protected our great country had on us as individuals.

Easton said "they were our friends and neighbors, our coaches and mentors, our classmates and colleagues. Each was an important person in someone's life, and we will never forget that they left us while protecting our homes and freedoms."

Some veterans may feel that people know but also do not know the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Pappas said, "I can honestly say, a lot of people remember, but a lot people don't remember," But Easton gave three things for the community to do on this Memorial Day saying "on this Memorial Day there are three things I ask you to do. I ask you to remember. I ask you that you honor. And I ask that you give thanks."

We thank all veterans for their service past, present, and future.
