Merrick Identified in Fatal Accident

Posted: Updated:
TOWNSEND - The identity of the fifty-three year old woman who lost her life in a two car accident near Townsend has been revealed.

According to Broadwater County Sheriff Brenda Ludwig, fifty-three year old Lorraine Merrick of Helena was the driver of one of the vehicles when she lost her life.

According to Montana Highway Patrol, it was shortly after 5:30pm Sunday that a two car accident on U.S. Highway 12 and Whitehorse Road near Townsend took place. Merrick lost her life and was pronounced dead at the scene while three others were injured in the process, there is no current word on their conditions at this time.

MHP says that one vehicle traveling southbound crossed the center line and corrected back to the right to regain travel, but that the other vehicle turned left not expecting the other vehicle to change direction again. A head on collision took place, and killed Merrick. MHP determined that alcohol and speed were not factors in the accident.
