Posted: Updated:

In an inspirational story Joe Biega brings us the tale of one inmate whose hard work has earned him the first HiSet Diploma in Crossroads Correctional history. Diplomas, decoration and guest speakers it's a graduation celebration for the inmates at the Crossroads Correctional Center. The facility handed out a total of 152 certificates of achievements to the graduating class and it's an event looked forward to by staff and inmates alike.

"It's something though that we can't live with out. We have to have these things and I think probably for one reason or another there is getting to be a little bit more emphasis that I am seeing in our being successful," explains Principal Gerald Kulpas.

For some inmates, education was never a goal and that was the story for Samuel Gee growing up.

"I should have got it when I was younger, but it was never a priority then for some reason. after I turned 18 it has been my main goal," says Gee.

Gee has been working hard since he was brought in to crossroads to make up for the time he had lost in learning.

"Well you need it in life to further your education which I recommend to everyone," says Gee.

After the state of Montana switched from the GED to the HiSet high school equivalency, Gee became the first recipient at crossroads of the new HiSet diploma.

"Well it means I'm on the next step to change and now I'm even closer to my future goal," says Gee.

After achieving his first goal, Gee's confidence is far more ambitious towards his future.

"Well I want to get out, get a business license and open a restaurant dinner,"

Gee story proves that no matter your situation their is always a way that you can make the grade.
