AA State Track and Field Preview

Posted: Updated:

The AA state track and field meet begins this Friday in Great Falls and both the Bison and Rustler athletes are excited to compete, especially in their home town.

"I'm pretty excited to go compete. I don't know how well I'll do but I'm going to give it everything I got, said Eric Weaver, GFHS Senior.

"I think it will be super fun. I'm just excited to be with all my friends that I've been running track with the last couple years, said Maggie Reilly, CMR Senior.

"I'm pretty excited, just mostly nervous. I don't want to mess up - it's my first time,"said Morgan Evans, GFHS Freshman.

"I'm excited it. It's great it's at home and I was looking forward to it once I heard it was at home," said Alex Thomas, CMR Senior.

The Bison head into the meet with a lot of youth and inexperience. Head Coach Dan Brady says that of his 11 that qualified for state, Eric Weaver is his only senior. But despite the lack of experience, he thinks that half have a chance to place.

"Experience is important but I think our young kids will compete. These kids have down a nice job all year but at this point I feel like they're veterans so that's the way we're going into it," said Brady.

Meanwhile, the Rustlers have 20 kids who will compete this weekend, including returning placers Alex Thomas in the 100 meter dash and Ashleigh Lehotsky in the shot-put. CMR Coach Mike Henneberg expects them to place again and hopes some of his other seniors do too.

"I really hope that our seniors have an opportunity to go out on a high note whether that be placing or running their best time or best mark of the season," said Henneberg.

The season will come to an end Saturday afternoon and the Bison and Rustlers competing hope it ends on the podium.
