Change in Command at Montana Air National Guard

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS -

Today was a big day for the Montana Air National Guard as they ceremoniously officially changed their mission to the 120th Airlift Wing and ushered in the use of C-130's to Montana.

"You know the National Guard, we fight our Nations wars, we protect the home land and we build partnerships. and now we will do it with the C-130 and that has been probably the most flexible and used inter theater airlift platform the Air Force has ever had. It does a whole range of missions to help us fight the war fight. and it has immense utility in the homeland as well," explains Lt. Gen. Joseph Lengyel, Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau.

These C-130's will not only be used during war times, but also will be used to aid the state of Montana during natural disasters.

"So anytime there is a flood, firefights or big snow storms or ice storms. This particular part of the country the really was kind of a not a large amount of C-130's to do it. So it really helps us respond here in the homeland as well so great day for Montana," says Lengyel.

The 120th said their goodbye to Brig. General Brad Livingston as he retires as the commander of the Montana Air National Guard and at the same time welcomes in the new Commander Brig. General Bryan Fox to the post.

"It's and honor and a privilege to be serving with the great airmen of the Montana Air National Guard. I've never met a group that is more dedicated to serving both the state of Montana and our Nation," adds Fox.

And so what is next for newly retired Brigadier General Livingston?

"Actually as I shared a couple times, It's spending more time with my family, my wife my son, but also my extended family. Friends, you know that's one thing that is great about living in Great Falls is that it's home of a lot of former Guardsmen. So I'll have a lot of opportunity to spend more time talking and socializing with them too," says Livingston.
