Fatal Shooting in Meagher County

Posted: Updated:
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - More information is being released on a shooting that took place in Meagher County Thursday night.

According to reports a forty-two year old male took his own life after he was stopped by a Meagher County Deputy in White Sulphur Springs. The man reportedly was stopped after he failed a test that was ordered as a condition of bond in a DUI case, the State Department's Division of Criminal Investigation has now assisted in the investigation.

DCI Administrator Bryan Lockerby says that the initial report is that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but that an autopsy will still be performed as planned.

The unnamed deputy stopped the man and ordered him to exit the vehicle. Shortly after, the deputy and several witnesses heard a gunshot from within the car.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity has not been released. According to Lockerby, the deputy did not fire any shots.
