SPOKANE, Wash. - Business is booming for Moran Fence Incorporated in East Spokane. The company says it can’t keep up with growing demand. People are turning to Moran Fencing to fence their property and keep intruders out.

Spokane Oxarc has invested $100,000 into fencing around its property. It’s even hired Moran to put up two layers of razor ribbon. The ribbon looks like barbed wire but it’s looped with razor blades. Oxarc has also installed two layers of 4-gauge wire next to its chain link fence. Intruders can use pliers to cut through the chain, but they need bolt cutters to get through the 4-gauage wire. The company made the latest improvements after someone got over one layer or razor wire, threaded cable made of copper through the fence and unraveled and stole an entire spool of cable. Oxarc says no one has broken into the facility ever since it added the second layer of razor wire.

Jerry Stretch at Moran Fencing Incorporated says thieves have preyed on their property as well. Moran Fencing has had to reinforce its fence too. Stretch says the problem has become significantly worse in the last ten years. It’s not just thieves after metal in the industrial area though; Stretch says half of Moran’s business comes from homeowners. He says that homeowners are just as concerned about property crime and taking the steps they need to protect themselves, which for them, starts with a fence.

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) - The settlers who founded Ellensburg in the 1870s were likely drawn by the plentiful water in creeks crisscrossing the valley, but as the city expanded, it grew right over those streams. Look at a Google map of downtown Ellensburg and you'll see Wilson Creek wind across Main Street.
