Elks Lodge Flag Day Celebration

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS -

The Elks Lodge had to wait a day due to a wedding party, scheduled on Flag Day, to hold their Flag Day celebration today. Even with the difference in days, the meaning of Flag Day and the history it holds still rang throughout the ceremony.

"It's the history of the flags of America. A lot of people don't know we had 9 flags. Not many people know we had 9 flags," says Exulted Ruler, Jake Jacobs.

In fact the Elks Lodge has made mandatory the celebration of flag day every year as they are an American based group and they have historical ties to the day.

"If you didn't hear it, one of the flags was sewn and designed by one of our Grand Exulted Rulers, by his mother," says Jacobs.

What makes our flag special enough to celebrate is what it symbolizes.

"Symbolizes us and who we are. That's basically what I feel," adds Jacobs.

Lodge exulted ruler Jake Jacobs says Montanan's are some of the most proud people when it comes to our flag and our nation.

"Montanan's I feel are some of the most patriotic. We know what this country is, we want to defend it," says Jacobs.
