Cislo Trial ends in a mistrial

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS -

UPDATE:

The Glen Cislo trial wrapped up this morning with a hung jury. The twelve jurors returned to Judge Sandefur's courtroom stating they were"hopelessly deadlocked". Judge Sandefur went on to declare a mistrial. This is the second time Cislo's trial has ended in a hung jury. The prosecution now has the option to appeal the case. If they choose to do so, it will then be taken to the Montana Supreme Court.

The Glen Cislo trial continues here in Great Falls as both the Prosecution and Defense have rested their case, now it is up to a Jury to decide his fate.

Closing arguments were this morning. The Prosecution opened theirs by asking the Jury to look at the facts in front of them and put aside any feelings or personal emotions and just decide if former boxing coach Glen Cislo is guilty of sexual intercourse without consent based on the law. The Defense cited Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible" to help illustrate their point that the state's plaintiff's case is inconsistent.

"And you can sit here and say I certainly wouldn't want to put myself through this. But the fact of the matter is people do it. We talked about one example. You see examples of it in the news papers," says Defense lawyer, Meghan Sutton.

"The law doesn't allow children of 15 to vote and ladies and gentlemen to enter into a contracts , to make life choices, to go to school or not," says Prosecution Lawyer Joel Thompson.

Currently the Jury has not reached a verdict and the Jury will return tomorrow to continue deliberating.
