Medicaid Will Not Be on the Ballot

Posted: Updated:

The proposed initiative to expand medicaid to the working poor did not make it to the ballot. As we reported on 2 weeks ago, medicaid expansion supporters had been trying to gather signatures out side of grocery stores, Churches and public events to gain the necessary 24,175 voter signatures needed to place the issue on the ballot on November 4th. According to sponsor Kim Abbott even though the group did manage to get over 25,000 signatures it still would not be enough after an internal review showed about 30% of the sample would be invalid and there is not enough time to make that number up by the due date which is tomorrow Friday 20th. Abbott adds that a delay in the "legal flaws" review by Attorney General Tim Fox held up the action time for gathering signatures by 3 weeks to a month.
