Whitefish Police Enforce Fireworks Rule With Zero Tolerance

Posted: Updated:
WHITEFISH -

Whitefish police won't give out a single warning this year about firework violations; the first citation will cost $300. Every time after that will cost $500.

In March, police chief Bill Dial asked Whitefish city council to narrow the window when you can light fireworks in the city.

Dial says this has been a big problem in the past.

This year, you have one less day. You can only set off fireworks from July 3 through July 4 between 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.

"Even though we like to have fun in Whitefish, people have to go to work. They have to sleep. They have pets that get very upset and some people actually leave town because of it," said Dial.

Fireworks stands across Whitefish have the new ordinance posted.
