The Great Falls Voyagers fell for the third straight day to the Missoula Osprey Sunday afternoon, dropping a 6-4 decision at Centene Stadium.
The middle and late innings were once again trouble spots for Great Falls (8-6), this time surrendering a 3-1 lead to the Osprey (7-7). In the sixth, it was starter Dane Stone surrendering an RBI single to Tyler Clark, reducing the Voyager lead to one.
Missoula then took the lead off reliever Matt Cooper (1-1) in the seventh. Kevin Cron tied the game with a run-scoring groundout, and the Osprey then took the lead on a two-out RBI double by Dane McFarland.
The Osprey then tacked on two more against the Great Falls bullpen in the eighth. Sergio Alcantara brought a run home with a single, and then a Voyager error helped another run score to extend the lead to three for Missoula.
Great Falls pulled one back in the ninth thanks to back-to-back two-out doubles from Zach Stoner and Toby Thomas, but were unable to muster up anything more against Brody Greer who collected his third save.
After falling behind 1-0 early, the Voyagers grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. Patrick Palmeiro plated his seventh run of the season with a groundout to tie the contest, and Mason Robbins followed later with a single to give Great Falls their first lead of the afternoon.
Great Falls tacked on another in the fifth when Ryan Leonards tripled to center field, and came around to score on a Justin Williams throwing error later in the frame.
Stone pitched well in a no decision this afternoon for the Voyagers, allowing two runs in six innings to earn his first quality start of the campaign. The righty also set a new career high with seven strikeouts.
The Voyagers and Osprey will wrap-up this four-game series Monday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls will send right-hander Brandon Brennan (0-0, 1.08) to the mound while the Osprey will turn to fellow righty Tyler Bolton (1-0, 3.00), First pitch is set for 7:00 and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
