In Case You Missed it: Waking the Dead Tour

Posted: Updated:
The Waking the Dead Tour is designed to teach visitors about the history of some of our more famous past residents. A Great Falls tradition has returned to the Highland Cemetery to bring back to life the rich stories of the famous Montanan's who now reside in Highland.

"Basically what we are doing here is we are bringing folks out from the town and community, showing them just the local history that we have here living in our cemetery,"

Austin Heaney has been involved with the tour for quite a number of years, this year he is teaching folks about the history of little known artist O.C. Seltzer for a very good reason.

"The main reason why i'm seltzer is because I have an uncanny resemblance to him," says Haney.

Most folks know of Charlie Russell, what people don't know is that he and seltzer had a history together.

"Well he's really kind of famous for being a friend, contemporary, student and Arch Rival of Charlie Russell," explains Haney.

New to this years tour is Eric Meredith, who is portraying his father who in life was a real live 007 secrete agent.

"A local leader in great falls he spent 32 years as a US secrete service agent. and then another 24 years as a substitute teacher at the high schools here in great falls," explains Meredith.

The history that lies on these grounds is so fascinating that even the actors themselves couldn't help but listen in to each other, it is those stories that brings folks back every year to play their role in the tour.

"They are doing very well its a good group of people, its a beautiful day and it's been a good tour," explains Elliot Merja.

"I'm actually looking on some of the historical story telling going on and enjoying it," says Meredith.

"I'm Mainly involved in this because I love local history and I like sharing that with people," says Haney.
