Guns N' Hoses Preview

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS - It's summer, meaning the Great Falls Voyagers are currently in action, but they are not the only ones with bats out this summer. This Saturday is the annual Guns N' Hoses Softball Game between the Great Falls Police Department and Great Falls Fire Rescue. Lets hear what the two sides have to say about the match up, but also the meaning behind the game.

SRO Josh Garner of the Great Falls PD said "we get really excited for the Guns N' Hoses game whether it be softball, hockey, or whatever we're playing. The rivalry between the police and the firemen is always there, and we just like getting out on the field and have a good time."

The aforementioned rivalry is more a mutual respect between the two groups.

Fireman 1st Class J.D. Kulbeck of Great Falls Fire Rescue said "ours is actually a really good friendly rivalry. We have got a really good working relationship on the streets, on calls, and also on sporting events. It's really friendly, very competitive, but really friendly."

Since Guns N' Hoses softball returned, the match ups have been very high scoring and very even.

Garner said of the series, "you know it's been back and forth. I think we won last year, they won the year before. You know it's a toss up. There's good players on both sides."

"Right now we are 2-2 since we really started playing guns n' hoses again. This years kind of the rubber match, we're hoping we can pull one out," said Kulbeck.

All proceeds from the event go towards great causes.

Kulbeck said their end of proceeds go towards "Eagle Mount, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Paul's Wish, and then the police have 'Shop with a Cop' and their other charitable funds to. It all goes toward charity."

"It goes back into the community for children's activities. Every single penny goes back to the community," said Garner.

Be at Centene Stadium this Saturday. First pitch is at 4:30pm and the game between the Great Falls Voyagers and the Idaho Falls Chukars will follow.
