HELENA -

Governor Steve Bullock announced yesterday that Montana was awarded a $400,000 grant for outdoor recreation and conservation projects.

The grant comes from the Land and Water Conservation fund, through the U.S. Department of Interior. Montana Parks director Chas Van Genderen said the annual grant money is allocated to local communities throughout the state.

"The communities around the state, they struggle to fund their infrastructure. much like anyone as facilities age, these monies are used to rehabilitate and renovate recreation facilities around the state," Van Genderen said. "Communities like Lewistown, Sidney, Helena, Gallatin...all those communities around the state can apply for those monies."

Local communities will be able to apply for the grant later this year and use the funds to renovate facilities including playgrounds, parks, ball fields, and community pools.
