Huestis to begin NBA Journey in D-League

Posted: Updated:

Former CMR Rustler Josh Huestis made history by becoming the first ever Montanan to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft.

But he might have to wait another year before stepping into the bright lights of the NBA. Reports surfaced earlier this week speculating that Huestis might start in the NBA's developmental league, becoming the first ever domestic first-rounder "draft-and-stash" player.

KFBB sources in Oklahoma City say that Huestis and his agent, Mitchell Butler, agreed  prior to the draft that if the Thunder selected Huestis in the first round, he would forego his rookie season in the NBA and start his career in the D-league.

This move for Thunder is similar to what they did in 2013 with their 2nd round pick Grant Jerrett, who started in the D-league and was rewarded by the Thunder when they put him on their playoff roster later that year. The major difference between Jerrett and Huestis is that Huestis is the first ever first round pick to agree to the "draft-and-stash."

Huestis is now expected to make an estimated $25,000 instead of $750,000. We'll have more on Huestis and the Thunder as everything develops.
